Ruggiero
& Associates is pleased to offer property from various Southern
Estates and Private Collections in our Spring 2005 Online Auction.
Property from the Estate of Daisy K. Dickson, the colorful and
well known supporter of the arts in Norfolk, Virginia, includes
Asian Art, furniture, paintings, and a large group of very wearable
jewelry. This Estate also includes paintings and studies by Mrs.
Dickson’s mother, Greta Kempton, whose work hangs in the
White House and has been displayed on US Postal Stamps.
Part
III of the Dr. Sture Sigfred Chinese Porcelain Collection will
include over 200 examples in this final installment. Property
from the Estate of C. Reynolds Brown, the highly regarded Museum
Director from Wilmington, North Carolina, includes American, European,
and Southern Regional art including a fabulous Max Kuehne Gloucester
Scene and works by J. Dupre, L. Messer, Mose Tolliver, F. van
Severdonck, C.F. Howell, E.A. Haney, and Arthur B. Davies, as
well as furniture and decorative arts.
My
sale favorite comes from a North Carolina Private Collection-
an American carved and giltwood eagle from the Philadelphia Federal
Building, circa 1800. With its 58” wing span, this classic
sculpture is a sale highlight. Other property from the Collection
includes an exquisite 12.75 carat dark blue sapphire and diamond
ring, a c. 1908 Brunswick Art Deco pool table, a fine Porter music
box, and a large Bob Dance acrylic on canvas. American and European
paintings and sculpture by L. Nesbitt, F. Gilot, Arthur Powell,
Henri J. Harpignies, M. Barrillet, J. Smellie, Math. Moreau, two
groups after Clodion, Barye, Mene, G. Barrier, P.O.J. Coomans,
E. Febvre, Guiseppi Magni, and F.A.B. de Groot round out the strong
fine art section of the auction.
The
other large group in this sale is the “Special Finds”
section comprised of property which belongs to an American Overseas
Collector. A vast array of Asian Decorative Art, Designer Furniture
and Accessories, as well as other architectural and special objects
including Jay Strongwater, Lynn Chase, and Augousti. From the
carved Indonesian entry gate to the 3-panel “African Fantasy”
screen, this collector’s taste and willingness to furnish
with flare and daring offer the chance to bid on a 7’ toucan
cage, a chinoiserie black lacquered cabinet, or a pagoda-form
handcrafted bird house. Take a step on the wild side as you bid
on some of these really unusual “Special Finds.”
We
hope that you enjoy the auction!
