Description
Set of 6 American Chippendale Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs, New York, 1770-1790, the cupid's bow crest rail centered by a shell and the ends with scrolled back 'ears', the pierced vase shaped splat centered by a 'diamond', the molded straight seat rail raised on front cabriole legs with shell at the knee and ending in claw and ball feet, the raked and chamfered back legs are mortised to the seat rail with visible tenon, chairs bear the roman numerals inscribed into the interior back and front seat rail II, III, IIII, V, VI, VIII; note: when the dust covers were removed from the bottom of two of the slip seats impressed roman numerals were visible on the slip seat frame. 38 1/2" H x 22 1/2" W across the knees.

Condition
Generally good condition with scuffing, rubbing to the knees and claws, splits, nicks, scrapes, discoloration spots throughout, some are a little wobbly, all commensurate with age, 4 of the chairs have either 2 small nails, screws or pegs throughout the side of the back legs into the tenon on each side, one has a repair at the top of the stile using 3 pegs or screws and 8 empty screw holes into the interior of seat rail.
