Much of my work pairs a variety of quasi-documentary modes of investigation with the nature of the medium itself. The duality that is present in this mode of investigation, which varies in form and concept, sets the stage for an understanding of photography as mythical, transitory and illusive. This image entitled ‘Altered State’ is from a group of work (Karst) that uses place and weather as a stepping off point for notions of wandering, dreaming and the subconscious.

Noel Rodo-Vankeulen is a photographer and writer who lives and works in Brampton, ON, Canada. His photographs and media work have been exhibited in Canada, the United States and abroad, most notably in the traveling exhibition “After Color” at Bose Pacia in New York. Along with having work in numerous private collections, Rodo-Vankeulen self-publishes his own handmade limited edition artist books as well as exhibition catalogues under his small run publishing house Wassenaar. His critical and editorial writing has been included in the LACMA’s Words Without Pictures book, the Toronto based arts journal Hunter and Cook, Foam International Photography Magazine, as well as Rodo-Vankeulen’s own weblog, We Can’t Paint.
