Dreams are the pathway to our subconsciousness. Sigmund Freud conceived them as an expression of the dreamer’s deepest fears and desires. Some scientists have even analyzed the similarities between the phenomenology of dreams and that of psychosis.

It is this mysterious combination of neural processes, hidden fears and spiritual messages, which makes dreams such a fascinating subject.

The photo series “Traum” (= German word for ‘Dream’) tries to visualize this fine line between imagination and reality – between otherworldly beauty and subliminal fear.

The mystic, surreal landscapes of Iceland and the lava fields of Dimmuborgir built the background for “Traum”.

Alexander Binder was born on Halloween night 1976 in the Black Forest/Germany.

He holds a degree in economics and started his career in arts as an autodidact. Both – his photo and his film projects – are characterized by a strong fascination for occult sciences, mystic tales, medieval woodcuts and horror-movies. The complex production process combines digital recording technology with self-built lenses and creates a blurred and somewhat psychedelic look.

Alexander exhibited in the United States, Germany, France & England and his works have been featured in magazines like Vice or FutureClaw.
